NEW Schmincke Waterborne Varnish, available in Gloss and Matte, is water-based and removable. The varnish provides a highly transparent and tough protective coating to acrylic and alcohol-based colours. It contains UV filters, is non-yellowing, flexible and quick drying.

Application Tips

  1. Preparation: Ensure your painting is completely dry before application. Allow at least 3 days for thinly applied acrylic paints and up to 1-2 weeks for impasto layers.

  2. Application: Shake the bottle well and use a suitable varnish brush. Apply at room temperature to slightly absorbent substrates for the best results.

  3. Layering: Be cautious when applying multiple layers, as the first layer may dissolve upon reapplication. For absorbent surfaces, consider pre-treating with a fixative.

  4. Cleaning: Clean your tools immediately with soap and water to prevent varnish buildup.

Easy Removal

This varnish is removable using a slightly alkaline solution (e.g., 2-3 teaspoons of baking soda dissolved in 100 ml of water) or classic varnish remover, you can safely remove the varnish without damaging your artwork.

Important Notes

  • Always test the varnish on a small section of your artwork before full application.

  • Store in a cool, dry place away from frost.

  • This product is not recommended for outdoor use.
