Indigraph Fountain Pens

If you're an artist, you know that the choice of tools can greatly influence your creative process and the final outcome of your artwork. Fountain pens, with their elegant lines and fluid ink flow, have been a cherished instrument for artists and writers alike. However, when it comes to fountain pens, there's a rule of thumb you might have heard before – don't use Indian inks in them. Why? Indian inks can often clog the pen, rendering it unusable if the ink isn't cleaned out promptly.

That's where the Indigraph Fountain Pen steps in. This innovative fountain pen, designed by Inigo Echeverria, an urban sketcher and product designer from Spain, challenges the conventional wisdom. Inigo was frustrated by the lack of modern fountain pens that could effectively use Indian ink. So, he took matters into his own hands and created the Indigraph Fountain Pen, which claims to be specifically designed for use with Indian ink. This means that waterproof inks can be used in the pens because the nibs never completely dry out. Waterproof ink can be used with the fountain pen with other mediums such as watercolours for outlining, detailing and more.

The cap that keeps the nib moist, allows the use of any type of ink, from regular to INDIAN INK

Build Quality and Design

The Indigraph Fountain Pen is a standout when it comes to build quality. Crafted from aeronautical grade 6061 aluminum throughout, it offers durability without being too heavy. The matte black surface of the pen boasts a pleasant texture that's comfortable to hold.

However, what truly sets the Indigraph Fountain Pen apart is its inclusion of a humidifier in the pen cap. At the top of the pen cap, there's a water reservoir with a see-through glass/plastic section that allows you to monitor the water level. This reservoir can hold a few drops of water, and you can easily refill it by unscrewing the top of the pen cap or using the two tiny holes underneath a running tap.

Inside the pen cap, at the end opposite the see-through glass/plastic, there's a membrane that allows water to escape into the pen cap. The purpose of this humidifier is to keep the inside of the pen cap humid, preventing the ink in the nib from drying out. Of course, the pen cap needs to be airtight for this feature to work effectively.

Using India Ink with the Indigraph Fountain Pen

While the ink on the nib's surface may dry, the ink in the feed section remains unaffected, and the pen continues to write smoothly. This distinguishes the Indigraph from other fountain pens, where India ink might cause immediate issues.

The nib and feed section are removable, allowing for easy cleaning and the possibility of swapping with other nibs. However, it's important to note that not all nibs and feeds from other brands may be compatible.

Performance

In terms of performance, the Indigraph Fountain Pen impresses. It writes smoothly and reliably, with the ink consistently flowing well. However, occasionally, the ink on the nib's surface may dry out, resulting in a blank first stroke. Simply get the ink flowing again, and the pen works perfectly. It's essential to cap the pen as soon as you're done using it to prevent drying, especially in hot weather.

The question arises – is it necessary to use Indian ink in a fountain pen specifically designed for it? No! The Indigraph Fountain Pen is compatible with regular ink, and the water in the canister keeps the ink fresh for months, even if the pen isn't used regularly. While Indigraph do have their own ink, they recommend Schmincke Aerocolor for coloured inks and Pebeo Indian Ink.

The Indigraph Fountain Pen is a remarkable addition to the world of fountain pens. Its innovative humidifier feature sets it apart from the competition and addresses the challenges associated with using Indian ink.

If you're an artist or writer who loves working with Indian ink and is looking for a reliable fountain pen to complement your creativity, the Indigraph Fountain Pen might be the perfect tool for you. It combines the elegance of a fountain pen with the practicality of using Indian ink without the usual hassles.
