It's a pigmented oil-based modelling compound known worldwide for its exceptional smooth consistency and brilliant color range. Plastalina is versatile, allowing for easy hand sculpting or precision work with Van Aken double-ended tools. But here's the kicker – it never hardens. Yes, you read that right! It stays pliable and reusable, and its consistency even improves with age. Perfect for larger sculptures and figure work, Plastalina is the artist's dream clay.

Protolina: The Professional's Secret Weapon

It's non-toxic, never hardens, and maintains a smooth consistency, making it ideal for detailed work. Whether you're a sculptor or involved in silicone-rubber mould-making, Protolina is your best bet. It even holds its shape under higher temperatures, making it perfect for various applications. Choose from firm, medium and soft.

Non-Hardening Modelling Clay Tips

Now that you're familiar with Van Aken's exceptional clay offerings, let's delve into some essential tips:

What is Non-Hardening Modelling Clay? - It's a wax- and oil-based modelling material used by sculptors, artists, and creatives. It can't be fired and requires a plaster or rubber mould for a finished piece.

Types of Non-Hardening Modelling Clay - Van Aken offers professional-grade Plastalina, school-grade Claytoon, and industrial-grade Protolina, each tailored to specific needs.

Softening and Hardening - To soften, use a hairdryer, or use the microwave in short spurts. Since microwave ovens have different power levels and wattage varies, there is no one set rule for successfully heating the non-hardening modelling clay - accomplish this by trial and error. Note that the basic formula for non-hardening modelling clay is wax, oil and clay flour so take this into consideration before doing something that you may regret later! To permanently soften the grade consistency knead small amounts of mineral oil into the clay. To harden temporarily, refrigerate; permanent hardening is not possible.

Restoring Dried-Out Clay - Add a few drops of household oil and knead until the desired consistency is achieved.

With the Van Aken range of non-hardening modelling clays at Gordon Harris, your creative possibilities are boundless. So, whether you're a professional artist, a school project enthusiast, or simply looking for a new hobby, get ready to sculpt your imagination into reality with Van Aken's exceptional clay offerings.
